Most tunnel on level 4 and prospect.

I will allow myself to hi-jack the thread a little.

I have noticed weird thing in my mine. I was digging and prospecting on level 3. So far I have found 3 veins on level 4 - copper, iron, and tin.
Now comes the fun part, I was digging and prospecting in area close to where I found tin (like 30 tiles away), and far from copper and iron (80-100).

And I was getting readings for all 3 veins. But when I moved like 10 tiles further away from tin I stopped getting readings for tin. Also it seemed that I was getting readings for copper more often than for iron.
On top of that, I got one reading to some other vein and I tried digging in that direction but the reading in this direction has never repeated itself.
It kinda seems that some veins are easier to prospect and from longer distance than others.

Of course together I got like 30 readings, so it's not really enough to make any conclusions, but maybe other people have noticed this trend too?

Normal. Prospecting picks a tile at random within the search range. If all three veins are there, you can get directions to all three from the same spot. If the vein is large, you can get conflicting readings as far as the direction, especially if you are standing in the middle of it.
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.

How you get the radius pie slice things to stay on the screen? I see people posting pic's doing this when fallowing scents but not sure how it is done.

It's a feature of ender's client. You have to enable "Show dowsing direction" in options
