There isn't any larger map, besides an entire world map, and it would be extremely hard for a new player to locate themselves there. And that is most likely a normal house.

Try using Ender's Client: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=14575

It is a variation of the normal client, and much better. :p

I followed this guide to the letter and I'm doing pretty good.

http://www.havenandhearth.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=19114

It will help you get to a point where you can feel comfortable about exploring/taming the world.

Don't even get me started on taming.

While the guide seems great in getting people to a point where they can pick a course, I haven't even bothered with some of the later aspects, i.e. taming, combat system, etc. I'm just getting my food production and outpost fortified while leveling up a combat/cooking alt. Then a mining alt. Then taming. Then start silk moths....

I was refering to this:

See, the way you said 'taming'? ;D

Now, let's stop bumping this post.

Best of luck to you all.

There's some really good answers here, but a few are more of opinions than right or wrong answers, so I'll help fill in a bit more.

Question:

1. Do people still play?

Yes, you can see how many people are actively playing on the home page at the bottom. You can also see if the server is down if you can't log in. (Note: ETA of recovery is never posted.)

2. is their a friends list?

Additional information: You can only add kin by Hearth Secret OR by actually seeing the person in the game and 'memorizing' them. Two people can add each other mutually, too.

3. can we attack other players?

Two players can spar together without needing extra skills, but to attack anyone at will, it requires a skill called "Rage". Other things, such as destroying or stealing other's property or killing require extra skills

4. can we build our own armys or guards?

One of the consequences of the current game mechanics is being able to build up armies of alts easily. You have to actively play the character, though. There is a good bit more information around about character specialization using alts and such, too.

5. their r 3 camps next to me and one has a bed so if they log out while they r sleeping will it show their character in the bed?
Yes, that is correct. Sleeping takes away travel weariness which allows you to teleport. (Also in the future.)
You can always teleport. Travel weariness blocks certain forms of teleporting and it can vary on circumstances, too. You can always port to your hearth fire (assuming you have one) no matter how weary you are.

6. and how do we know wat world we are in?

(Didn't see an answer for this one) Everyone is always in the current "world". It's just a designation of what iteration of the game is currently being played. This is the 5th major world. The first didn't last very long, the second wasn't long either. (I don't know why they ended, though, but probably to fix bugs and massive mechanics changes.) The third world ended due to a massive database failure. The fourth world started with some new game mechanics and ended because those new game mechanics allowed bots to completely overrun the average player. The current world started with new learning mechanics to minimize the impact of botting.

7. are their any defenses for a village besideds the players?
Yes, Palisade walls and Brickwalls.
Good defense goes beyond your walls, though. One has to know what the game mechanics are, what bugs there are (this game is technically only an alpha), and how best to use those to their advantage. Properly done, one can have a brick wall that will take over a week to bust through.

8. are their any major villages now like castles or towns or is almost every1 like me (just starting out)?

This world has been running since the middle of March, and has just passed it's fourth month. Some people are very well established, others are just starting like you. Others are having to restart for various reasons.

9. can villagers attack each other. i mean people in the same town or village kin or what ever theyr called.

Doing this voluntarily is called sparring. Others do it just to be malicious.

10. i built a leanto , how do i sleep in it? and wat is travel weariness will i log out or something when its full?

You can also place one of any container you can build in the lean-to (Build->Containers). Use the other box. (Boats, carts, and wagons work this way, also.) When you right click on the lean-to, you can then "sleep" (log out) or open it to access the items in it. Anything in that lean-to while you are sleeping can't be accessed by other players without destroying it. Vandalism is required in order to destroy a lean-to (or other bed) a person is sleeping in.

A couple words of advice on the forums: Don't type in textspeak. Use proper English the best you can. Not everyone is a native speaker (so must use translators or won't recognize the shorthand), and it's much easier to read. If you're going to use numbered lists, try to continue from where you left off. It makes things easier to organize and read/reply to.

Just remember this: many of the people you run into will either be directly hostile or assume you're hostile. They may be helpful and friendly on the forums, but they'll shoot first and ask questions later in the game. If you do get killed, just remember it's just a game, pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and start again. Maybe even come back to the forums to get someone to hunt your killer down. (You'll need to be able to tell them where you're at.) Better yet, if you feel capable of it, do it yourself.

Tamed boars turn into pigs. You're idea has been suggested before.
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.
