You don't have to make a mineshaft. Just try to discover a cave entrance in one of the ridges that run through the woods.

Bears you best hunt with a sling as a newbie. Use a boat, shoot at the bear from the river. Your damage should be low enough so he will never run away from you. It will take a while, but the results are worth it

that seems nice but ill have to learn boatmaking first and explore further,the area im in is covered by rivers and lakes and i couldnt find a single entrance to the mines(pretty much searched all of the area.)

Ok I thought you had progressed a bit more already. When you don't have boatmaking yet then metal is the least of your concerns. You should probably follow the steps in the beginners guide by Sevenless stickied here in the "How do I?"

Metal is a Mid game item, You dont "Need" it right now, Its just a luxury ;p

Defiantly Get a boat + Fence + Ovens and all the stuff you need first, and then get metal later (If you cant mine it you can trade for it, My village has alot of Low lvl metal we can trade, just PM me)

learned boat making but had to restart as descendant when i tried to lure a boar away from the camp,at least i got refunded enough to get back to what i was doing.
