First, throw the bow away. It's worthless. You'll do far better with a sling until you hit around 60+ MM. You can kill anything at 4 or 5, but it's painfully slow. You'll just have to bear with the slow aim rate that will get better as you increase it.

Were you perhaps using Wikia? If so the wikia wiki is outdated, and not ideal. The up to date wiki is here, however it's currently down.

I would strongly advise you don't use wikia.

a lot more, for your first fox 10 should be more then fine but you will want a lot more latter on. :)

a higher quality sling will also help you aim better(I think, could just be a damage bonus but both are good) so upgrade as you get better-> higher survival = better quality saw = higher quality boards = higher quality tanning tub = higher quality leather = higher quality sling.

your carpentry and survival skills are 2 you should probably work on early(along with exploration these 3 are going to be the difference between a good day and a horrible week) getting them atleast to 10 before even thinking about hunting. once you get to 15 survival and 10 carpentry you should be able to make a decent quality sling without softcapping too much. look for string in higher quality soil areas and you can get a sling around q15 and with mm of 15-20 you can take a fox or boar without too many problems.

Somewhat true. The quality of your ranged weapon determines the maximum amount of MM you can use. Example: with a q10 sling and 25 MM (Marksmanship), at most you have an effective MM skill of 20, even with it higher. With the reverse, a q25 sling and 10 MM, you still only aim at the speed of 10 MM.

Really! I did not know this, random question how much MM can you use with a Q90 Rbow?

Sorta Off-Topic
If one has accumulated a good LP/Hour (Overall amount of curios being collected and crafted)
and you wish to follow the steps of a melee hunting style then listen to me like a blind man could.

______________________________________
1)Minimum requirement of 40 UA and 13 MC
(For survival of fox bites and MC is optional)

2)Get these combat skills (Leadership is optional)
(Unarmed, Militia Training, Brawling, Valor, Warrior Spirit, Soldier Training, Tales by the Hearth, Leadership)

3)Start Battle with DoG + Charge until 25 def/Dash + Oak until 6 IP, Flex + Bloodlust then Pawnch!
(Call down the thunder! as initial skill is recommended, early bird gets the worm.)

4)At most 5 successful Punches to the fox then end her with Knock his teeth out!or Chop (optional if 13 MC) This should deal at least 110 damage, enough before fox flees
(Minimum is 4 Punches, don't want the fox to run away)

5)Be prepared for a chase if enough damage was not dealt, end the escapade with a punch to the rear end.

I've explained the basic toil of the hunter, the rest is up to you as this method is flexible to how you see fit.
To explain
my ramblings, I just felt like helping out some determined newcomers ^-^ Talk about plan for the future

I don't melee, never have and probably never will, but wouldn't it be simpler to fence the fox in and leave an open corner to hit it as it twitches? that way it wouldn't run away either...

Yeah haha, CQC isn't for the faintest of the heart. Keep in mind this post is not aimed solely at OP's Topic ;) (not that I wanted to aggrovate anybody no GIB lol)
Heh wish we could do that, otherwise the early worlds would be easier, but no foxes can break through signs and fences.
My method wasn't for rock slingers that aren't confident in their primal hunting prowess.

EDIT: oAo talk about a marathon of editing

Ranger Bows have a 3x maximum skill. Ammo also caps your effective skill at 2x the ammo Q. I'd point you towards the wiki article, but RoB is down.
