That depends. Are you growing grass in your local area just for the animals to spawn?

The only benefit of waiting for the grass, would be so the animals you tamed can eat it in case you don't have enough food for them. Unless you live pretty far from a moor/grassland. Which is pretty doubtful.

Animals spawn on a single tile. All you need is one tile of grassland for a herd of aurochsen or mouflon to spawn. The odds of it being "that one tile" are pretty slim, though, and if it's the tile next door, it could end up being a bear instead.

Oh, and grats on finding the grassland. You usually only have to travel 5-10 minutes at most to find one. You might pick the wrong direction three times first, though.

it only takes 1 tile, but probability is on your side with alot more...and natural grasslands aren't usually too far away.

^thats what I should have said before, and be sure to check it often you never know whats going to spawn there for you to hunt/tame
