You must pave cave floor to build a minehole.

for a very very long time i've wished to build an underground village, build a minehole to level 2 in a cave, then dig out a 101x101 area with enough supports to choke a monolithic goat. hm, how do cellars work underground, i've wondered for a long time how cellars themselves work to be honest, do they create their own instance or do they share the space with other things?

edit: i guess they do make their own instance since otherwise you'd see other nearby cellars.

Cave tiles don't.

Cellars share the "instance" with the house they're built in.

I don't know. Mined tiles do for sure tho.
