Ah, the age old claim that "X will make your computer slow", simply storing files won't make your computer slow, only when the game is being ran it will use up any resources from your computer, and that is all temporary. I guess fragmentation might increase or something like that, but such things would happen anyway and it's not a good argument against storing files. Also, the client doesn't even use the registry as far as I know so there's no reason to believe it would slow down your computer in any way.

Though if you have a slow as shit HDD and it's full loading files will take a long time. And no it doesn't, so when you download the game you don't actually install it, so therefore OP's dad's concerns are moot.

the game itself is safe to download and play. as for the player base in general, i personally wouldnt want a kid of mine under 14 especially to be playing this game and interacting with a predominantly adult player base, with generally adult themes discussed. but as im finding out the younger players are often worse for this and i appear naive, but meh. <----- use of meh is from this damn game

By not allowing you to experiment with the machine your father is seriously impairing your chances of ever learning to use it properly, which is a prerequisite for A) Not getting problems in the first place and B) Being able to fix them when they do occur. I don't know how old you are, but since you are apparently old enough to write you really should have a computer of your own by now. It is safe to say that computer literacy will probably be necessary, or at least extremely beneficial, for your future successes in life regardless of what you decide to do with it, something that I don't think your father would want to deny you. Really, there are only so many things that can actually go wrong, and I can assure you that downloading, installing and playing Haven is one of the least risky things you could possibly do with the computer. Unfortunately (and with no offense) I get the impression that your father doesn't quite understand the machine himself.

You should have your own computer. Cancel future birthday/Christmas/whatever gifts for the coming two years -- if that is what it takes -- and ask for a computer instead. It's more than worth it. There is not a device or item under the sun that will bring you more comfort, enjoyment and practical application. I don't think you'll regret it.

Well said jorb! (also the snipped) Parents should give Kids their own Computers and pay the bigger part of it...and keep a watching eye what they are doing on it! And his father seems to be aware enough to be responsible - if not it's just lazyness i think...

Thanks for all the great replies *edit* Save for one that wasn't exactly that great., my dad should be home in a few hours and if things go well, ill be a hearthling by tomorrow.

By the way, yes, i am 14 years of age.

I am, by my standards, quite proficient with computers, so my dad isnt really holding me back, too much.

I might cancel a few things on my x-mas list this year and get a used lap-top perhaps? My birthday isn't till september though, so i may not be playing anytime soon.

But if i t come down to it, ill wait, and wait, because this game seems, so far, like exactly what ive been looking for.

Be aware that this game doesn't run well on old laptops, especially not ones that have integrated intel chipsets. You'd be better off with a used desktop computer.
