Update on this, (warning, anecdotal data point ahead).

Someone ingame said that the beehive "averaged" across all crops it had pollinated. Ie week 1, you've got 100 crops that were ql10, but then week 2 you've got 100 crops that were ql50.

That somehow those original 100 crops of ql10 were still involved in the beeswax/honey formula, and bringing down the average. I tried destroying the old hive, and building a new one in exact spot, with the same crops (only one harvest difference, so maybe a ql diference of 5 tops) the wax went from 9-12 to 33-31.

I know that one data point does not equal a fact, just some extra thoughts on the topic.

I've seen that as well. The quality dropped back down after a while, but theoretically a better Beehive might have something to do with it. As far as I know, not even Jorb/Loftar truly understand how beehives work at this point in time. The code was written a while back and they haven't bothered to re-decipher how it works.

Seems like I recall someone stating they replaced a higher quality hive with a q10 materials hive and it still got the quality increase.

I can confirm this. Using carrots around 70-80 ql, I planted 60 of them in the radius of an entirely new beehive with minimal/average ql materials (no other crops in the radius but these 60 carrots).

Both honey and beeswax collected were ql 72.

So it's worthwhile to destroy and rebuild hives now and then to reset its pollination averages, but materials definitely don't matter.

Maybe beehives track "fodder quality" like cows do? Obvious answer is obvious
