it really depends on the town and what stats villagers are increasing

What we generally hve in stock is:

pea pies
apples pies
pumpkin pies
pumpkin bread
bark bread
rings of brodgar
carrot cakes
pirozkhi
occasionally we have blueberry pies for anyone new still increasing perc/int at first stages of the game

added to that we have some pancakes
chicken salad
stinging salad

we then have a range of sausages
cow chorizos
lamb sausages
chicken sausage
big bear bangers
bear salami
boar balony
DDD's
fox fuet
fox wursts
piglet wursts
etc.....depends on low stat charachters and alts requirements for food

then cheeses that are made up, but this isnt generally the cooks job anyway.
i like variety, i dont want to eat a whole cupboard of one thing to gain that stat, so we mix it up between baked goods, sausages, cheeses and any fillers like pumpkin flesh, peas, and carrots, mussels etc.

cook and farmer is a rough job in a village, so good luck!:D

How do I be better/more efficent at it? what are the best/staple foods you make for your village? things that you can never have enough of? I know it probably all depends on the roles your villagers take though.

Any tips or anything? I keep everyone from starving, but think I could be making/doing something else to help out with.

:)

You bastard, cooking is not an easy job

Try feeding 6 hungry miners who feast every meal.

Anyways on a more serious note

If your early in the game cook tons of bluberry pies

later in the game cook these

__
Pumpkin pie
Pea Pie
Carrot cake
Ring of brodgar

get 16 ovens so you can cook a full cupboard of food at a time

One thing I like to do is provide variety. Have you learned about the variety bonus?

An organized kitchen can help your villagers find the FEPs they want. I'm not sure how big your village is. Mine's pretty small so I just use 1 cupboard per stat. Inside each cupboard I put the 4-5 highest FEP foods I can make for that stat.

Str cupboard-
Midnight Blue Cheese
Brodgar Blue Cheese
Roast Bear Meat
Big Bear Banger

Agi Cupboard-
Delicious Deer Dog
Creamy Camembert
Honeybun
Ring of Brodgar (baked)

Int Cupboard-
Jorbonzola
Blueberry Pie
Roast Perch
Perched Perch
Fox Wurst

Con Cupboard-
Apple Pie
Pumpkin Pie
Pea Pie
Bark Bread
Cow Chorizo

...you get the idea

So that takes up 8 cupboards in the kitchen, but then you can fill other cupboards with FEP reducers. A cupboard of carrots, a cupboard of peas, a cupboard of mussels, a cupboard of beets, a cupboard of beetroot leaves, you get the idea. FEP reducers are low hunger/FEP foods eaten for the purpose of adding variety to any meal. I like to have wine and beer near the table to FEP reduce with as well. If you wanna be nice there can be a cupboard for hemp, but at my place it's B.Y.O.H.

Some might say it's not worth the time to FEP reduce but eh I think it's nice to give villagers the option
and doing it this way consumes less total food per levelup.

But the real reason I like to provide variety is because I like to cook a lot of different things to keep it interesting for me :)

Cooking really isn't that bad of a job if you have good organization. The problem is that you can only hold, at max, 56 items at once and for some of the recipes, that's only about 7-8 items.

I'm with Phaen and the great variety over great quantity. Even poor quality can make for better FEP from the bonus than eating another of the same food (a bit of math will be helpful here).

This is a great thread. What are the chances of a few new wiki pages that focus on tips/tricks for the various "roles"?

I know the information is in the forums, but its scattered all over the place, and if you're not really careful about who is posting you'll find conflicting information.

Would be very helpful to have a vetted "go here" about these jobs, not just the technical "howto" on the wiki now, but more in the sense of specific focus guides.

How you mean? Cooks cook. Miners mine. Farmers plant and harvest. I've always thought they were self-explanatory. ;) Maybe the wiki should list specific skill/attribute combos focused on that particular skill, maybe the suggestion should be for Sevenless to add these to his new player's guide.

Cooking isn't so much about "how to" but more "what to" do given the variety. Opinions are going to vary. The only other place you get this kind of variety in opinions in combat styles and what equipment to wear. Otherwise, the jobs are very straightforward.

Thanks for all the help and advice!

I didn't know about the reducing FEP thingy and organizing my cupboards is something I need to do too ;)

Most appreciated!
