Meh, who needs damage, just make them run so they turn docile, and then sword them.

I personally would not compete in a foot race with a deer or bear. Deer you can possibly one shot but you'd have to rely on a yoyoing bear.

To explain: When they start to run, make sure to toggle the passive/aggressive stance manually. When the animal runs out to max range, combat breaks and it'll run right back forgetting it was running away from you. You are then free to shoot again or stick it like a bleeding pig.
