With my other chars I used to hunt in boat and it was r eally slow, with my new hermit I got a new tactic: I let the gates of my palisade open, atack a boar and run while he follows me. I get in my pali and close the gatse, and hit him. Once he runs you can chase him and shoot, he wont atack most of the time. If he strikes back while you are shooting him in the field run back to the pali and close, they are really slow.

You could trap the boar inside of the gate if you closed it at the right time, then he wouldn't be able to run.

I did this accidently a few days ago with a bear, when i was too lazy to swap chars and nipped outside the village to get something on the key alt! Ofc, there was a bear who then chased me back to the gate, the alt has no stats, lol, I had just managed to get in the gate when he reached me and I thought I was too late, but, luckily, I shut him in the gate - lol, was such a relief!

Not that losing the key alt would have been a great loss but all the time I kept thinking, if she dies, by the time my tin can pc loads me back up again and I can get out to the body it would be typical if someone else found her first and looted the keys!

Okay, what am I doing wrong?

Everything I hunt runs away from me once I wound it. It generally comes back and I wind up trying to aim my sling while a boar nuzzles my crotch in a friendly sort of a way, but eventually when I wound it yet again, it takes off never to be seen again. If I chase the darn things I inevitable lose them what with lag bouncing me into trees I thought I had run around, and having to keep spam clicking the picture of the animal because I stop short every few seconds.

Other than developing enough coordination to catch up to the quarry or being lucky enough to find them in areas that have been deforested, is there something I should be doing?

I have 20 marksman and a q18 sling.

When you say low unarmed combat what level are you talking? 50? 3? 15?

While animal is running, 15 UAC is probably more than enough. Someone else might know much better numbers but these are top of my head.

E: Yesterday it took me 1 hit from ~q55 sling and 2 punches with crappy ~30 UAC and even worse STR

When an animal or person is running and you punch him, he will have no defence, thus your unarmed combat has no influence, only your strength which will determine the damage.

So farn, the unarmed combat doesn't matter. might as well be 1.
