its just one entire container missing and it had nothing valuble in it and all my other containers are fine is there any other explanation

now im wondering if its a waste of time to even build my log cabin

Im not quite clear on how to keep me and my stuff safe till claimed land i built fence with HF as gate, and I lock my important stuff in leanto plus i dont sleep i log off instead. is there anything Im missing

you can put a bed inside a leanto and sleep in it
what this does is make it so nobody can take from the container in the other slot unless they have the theft skill

sleeping and logging off both protect the character inventory equally well

There's no sense stockpiling items that you can't protect.
If you're starting out alone, getting yeomanry is of the highest priority unless you want to live as some kind of ascetic.
Yeah, its a waste of time doing a log cabin if you don't have yeomanry yet because a stranger with yeomanry could claim it for himself.

If you'd like to have an easier start I suggest joining a group of players

They could have destroyed the fence, went trough it and took your hide. And then was gentle enough to rebuild it again?

When I was slightly more green I did this exactly, only reason was because on that particular adventure I was looking for furs just a bonus it was already dried for me ^.^ but I felt guilty so left a few curios and forgeables im pretty sure the char was not leveld enough to gather at that point on their own
