The new crossroad expense is total bullshit because of this. Keys fucking suck.

Keys should be a utility item and not something you physically need to open a gate. I've been thinking about this for a long time and I've come up with this idea: Whoever creates the gate becomes the owner. You can change ownership by right-clicking the gate and typing in a new owner, or if the owner hasn't logged in for a long time (like how the current claims work) a new owner can come forth and claim ownership.

The key, in this case, has no purpose in opening the gate at all. The owner of the gate can add friendly people that can open the gate as much as they please while people not on this "list" have no access rights.

But back to the key. I've either thought of the key being used like a scent which can guide you to the gate it belongs to, however after so many uses it destroys the key, or a mobile ownership list for the gate so you don't have to physically be there to change/add more people to your access.

This is a brilliant idea! I've seen many suggestions for alternatives but this is so simple and the perfect solution imo.

Not everyone can run two clients well, or maybe thats just me, most of the time I attempt it one of my chars will be faced with a white screen, this is why trade has to be done through my idol and why I had my own keys stolen earlier this world, even though i'm well aware of the dangers of having them on me.

I would love to see this implemented.

Similar if not identical ideas have come up years ago but were shot down by the devs because they disallowed breaking and entering by making keys unable to be stolen.

Yes, that does make sense, sadly. So no point dreaming of a world without keys then. :(

But, hey, thank goodness they allow crossroads! :D

Sure having permission gates password gates or whatever would make stealing keys to gain entrance impossible but NOONE IN THEIR RIGHT MIND USES KEYS.

People are more likely to be rammed or palibashed than have their keys stolen since everyone keeps them on alts or uses crossroads. I see my idea as a nice workaround to an already broken system. At least until something better comes up.

It's ok now though, :D - but early game is a nightmare everytime I leave the base. It can be even more dangerous if the screen suddenly goes blank in the middle of opening up, i've even disconnected with the gates wide open!

Any donations for new pc, pm for where to send.

I know this feeling. Both clients crashed with gate open, took me 5-10 minutes to get back into the game due to white screen. I knew the chances of anything happening were slim but I still had the tightest asshole for days after.
