You're all such downers. The game is worth playing even if you hate the danger and permadeath aspect. Just play it as you will and have fun with it until you die and then put it down and move on.

It boggles me to avoid having fun for the risk that you might not have fun eventually. Won't you just skip by life in fear if you live like that?

The idea of losing everything to a murderer is offputting, but the chance of loss doesn't bother you?
Is that 2 different people posting or...?

What Teck is saying is that you have two choices:

You can live your life in paranoia of a murderer barging into your door in five minutes and do nothing other than cower in the corner,

OR

You can live like it doesn't matter what happens in 5 minutes and enjoy yourself.

Just remember:

Odds are you're going to live a lot more than 5 more minutes, so don't do anything you'll be embarrassed about later (or get arrested for).

Play games the same way you live your life, and live your life the same way you play games. Wait, better not. Too many of you all are murderous bastards in games because you can get away with it.
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.

What I meant is, OP is both offputted by murderers, and doesn't give a shit about getting murdered.

While this game is fun, the idea of some child/douchebag just murdering and griefing me because it's funny is rather offputting.

Your the reason why all MMO are so easy these days..with no real penalties

just move on...

but on the other side, you get to play an amazingly addictive survival sandbox game, that has risk and adventure, and that has a ton of depth that you are unlikely to find in any other game. and if you play right, and learn how to play this game and its many different aspects, you will enjoy it, and you wont be so bothered by death or losing things, cause you know you can regain then back easily enough. or you learn from what u did wrong.

There is so much more to Haven than raiders and murderers, it is definately worth playing! It sounds like you escaped and didn't die, so thats a good start. :D

The first time you die is always a bit offputting, there are people who will quit afterwards, mostly new people who haven't given the game a chance yet, if you stick with it you will find that death is really just a small part of playing the game and as you get used to the mechanics and learn to play - as Em has said - it won't be such an issue.
There are many ways to make yourself safer and you will learn to take precautions to add to your security, eventually you should be able to avoid it. I died three times in my first world but got through the whole of w6 without losing any chars, mainly through what i'd learnt.
This world I've been ko'd, chased and threatened but the only char i've lost so far was to an auroch and through my own stupidity -

Being a loner isn't a problem, I am a bit of a loner too. For the first six months I played I logged off everytime I saw someone, lol, and not because I was scared of dying, now though I talk to everyone I meet in game and through that have made some good friends and am able to help people like yourself who are new to the game, I find it quite rewarding.
It should be remembered that the game is also full of lovely, helpful people who are more than happy to assist you if you need it. :)

I hope you continue, if you do you will understand why this game is so addictively awesome!
Have fun and good luck! :)

@OP: The best bit of advice I can give you is "strength in numbers". Your chances of survival will greatly improve if you manage to ease up on the "loner" bit and join a faction of at least somewhat experienced players.

And, let me define that for you because apparently newbies confuse what that means. It is NOT the guy and his mate or two down the river who have been playing for 2 weeks. I am talking about the 10+ people with a village idol and cr's and a decent sized brickwall surrounding their entire village.

There are quite a few like that and still, but take care, some might act like they are like that ans still fuck you over. The learning curve is steep and if you really enjoy hard-core survival games you will be ok with that.

P.S. It sounds like PvP is not what you're after in any case, so here's a tip/hint: Ask Emerald if she will take you under her wing.

HnH even was worth to play for some people when there was a long time with real horrible lag (funny enough most of them where peacefools ) ;)

There are always players who get their fun by destroying the fun for others - in every online game...

I suggest to just move to another area ...

i know you have had MANY answers to your question by vets, BUT i wanted to add my 2 cents worth.

I find that running from a killer or even a perceived killer is a rush.
I find that farming and crafting and foraging gives me a sense of accomplishment.
It is all about what you get from these things that should decide if it is worth it to you to play long term. each of us has already came to the bend in the road and moved forward or we would not be here now. we all each get something out of the experience of this game.
Now this is ONLY the word of a care bear but if you worry overly much then you will get grey hairs and not get the fun of " OMG, i just died... *******, ******. who can i hire to go kill that guy and get my stuff back and how much will it cost. WHAT will i name my new chara?"
