Until you have an established hermitage/town the best way to get lp is through foraging. Flotsam, Bluebells, Prince Charming, Enthroned Toads, Edelweib, Glimmermoss, and similar foraged curiosities are great lp and can also be traded for goods from other players quite easily. To get these you'll need access to a variety of terrain types: swamps, river/lake water, and mountains. You'll also need a decent exploration, perception, and survival. Exploration is the first thing you want to get, try to aim for around 50. Get your hands on food that will improve your perception as well and try to get that to 50. This will allow you to see a good number of the delicacies the natural world has to offer you.

The amount of survival that you will need is going to vary based on the quality of the foragables around you. Your survival acts as a hardcap to what you can forage and higher quality goods give you more lp, so raise your survival until you are no longer being capped. I'd advise to perpetually raise your survival until you are at least 1 point above the best items you can forage. For example, if you have found a nice little swamp and you have 20 survival and it is giving you quality 20 bluebells, raise your survival. If you have 40 survival and you're only finding quality 38 bluebells, you're in a good spot for the time being.

He has leather and bones for a personal claim = he can hunt.
Mass making bark boats won't get him LP fast since you can put only 1 of a kind curio in the study box.

I can't hunt yet, I got leather and bones from a shitload of bunnies

obviously he didnt get that lol
uhm its super awkward starting by yourself your best bet is in personal beliefs MAX change asap because it at max goves you x3 the LP you normaly get
as well stay away from buying farming untill your perception multiplied by exploration is higher than 80 so you can find plant seeds
uhm fishing is a great way its awkward and dangerous due to the number of player killers but lots of fish to discover and catching each butchering each and cooking each gives LP if i remember
and as far as curiosities id suggest bark boats and dragonflies, bark boats are really easy to make and take 3hrs so you can grind them if you play allot and dragonflies are stupid common usualy
but outside of that all i can say is roam around and raid the tits out of abandoned villages xP why? because plant fibers are stupid to get normaly :/

There's no desert biome. Do you mean mudflats? In which case yes, tangled brambles, thorny thistles, and toy chariots can be good for working your way up.
