I myself think it's kind of frustrating not to be able to get a mine for me and my friends, because the need of iron starts pretty early (big house, meatgrinder etc.) and without it you can only develop your character to a specific point where you don't need iron. All the metal goods are unavailable / only available by trading.

I agree, I've found the "metal owners rule all" to be a very big imbalance in the game, with just about everything requiring metal unless you just want to farm. Yeah ya suppose to be able to trade but noobs have nothing anyone wants (And this game has the longest noob period of any game i've ever played as I still consider myself very much a noob after a month, I myself have been playing obsessivly a month now and can finally make brodgar blue cheese (Only because I took over a dead abandoned farm that had a cabin with a celler) and have my farming high and so froth. I dabble in breeding silk moths and yeah I supposeif i want a few coins or a piece of metal for a pickaxe I could sit for weeks making massive amounts of linen but no matter how good a game is total repitition can be pretty boring after a certain amount of time.

I did do an expidition, into the 2 grid teir but walked for hours running from animals, but yacan't really find anything it's supposedly so "rare". Not to mention playing with the critters can be fun at first but when it's every 10 minutes and of course ya cant survive without armor and stuff (all taking what?..metal). It does indeed set up a pretty steep imbalance being as their is no official exchange (game store) and you have to depend on the VERY few people with mines to be willing to give ya some for basically crap they dont need (And not everyone's that nice...lol) But oh well, sstill a fun game, i think most of us just have to learn to enjoy it while being pretty limited. Hopefully thatwont translate into boredome (i'm still enjoying it greatly so here's to hoping it stays that way even being limited to things that require no metal)

Have you ever made silk? Not exactlly an action packed endavor as you sit for days having to watch the time for a few silk filiments to add to a basket in waiting for a few more andmaybe after 2 weels you may enough threads to make yarn t make 1 piece..lol

Fishing for certain fish? Stand, click, with your LP window open to tell when you need to cast again, and then only if ya have the right bait/gear (much of which takes metal..lol) at the right time in the right place. no thanks, ill hunt chantrelles and catch chickens if i want dex..lol

But not being argumentative but i think you illustrate what i meant by "imbalance"..if I had a mine i'd never have to do a thing in th e game but make the other 98% of players run around and gather up/work/craft/catch everything i'd ever need for the metal they need to play..LOL Which is understandble, it's called a class system...but as the poster I responded to illustrated...1-2% of the player base possesing this "rare" thing, while a good 60% (if not more) of crafts, jobs, activites, buildings/buildables, and skill activities REQUIRIING this "rare thing" creates a huge imbalance that can be frustrating. I mean after over a month, I THINK I may have worked up my skills and managed to be in a position to create some things that "may" get me a few pieces of metal (If i can find someone online at the same time), enough to make me a pickaxe...LOL "maybe"..lol

I'm actually wearing merchant robe, ranger shirt and ranger boots, made all the silk myself in four or five days.

As for fish, you can get pinecone plug without metal, and it works wonders for both brill and roach.

Point is, I haven't mined since August, and I've got all the metal goods I need. Heck, I sometimes even sell metal myself.

Yeah, its true. its VERY hard to find a mine in this days.. All mines on the main grid its already claimed, few dont... Today, me and my friend get out the city to explore and prospect a mine, but we find nothing... ;/

I really dont know how to get iron to do some stuff like better weapons and armors, i still farming LP to do something that i dont know yet ;/

I Imagine it's quite tedious, and most probably wouldn't like it, including me I bet, other than getting the rewards of being able to make stuff that requires metal like decent armor to survive outside the level 1 area..lol Which is exactlly why I wish it wasn't such a game owning/required thing.

LOL@ Sab Yeah mining is tedious. But the advantage is that making 1 bar takes 1/5-1/10 - even 1/20th the effort required to make the goods you are trading for.

What this is truly indicative of is that there may not be enough dependence of industry on farming. W e are only JUST now reaching the stage where People Are willing to sell Tree Tech and at that, those people already have mines and thus do not need said products. Mining IS the pinnacle of this game and if this is intended I understand.

However, I'd liek to see more balance and interdependence and as such, rather agree with Rhiannon.

Perfect answer...lock out the skill tree according to which path you take. Smithing = no farming/cooking...farming/cooking = no smithing. Then the miners would be forced to depend on us as we are forced to depend on them. Our high quality trees, crops and food would be more valuable to those who could not make them just like we are dependant on them for all metal works. I'd be a happy farmer then.
