It's better to be alone trust me. Unless you know them IRL, I've found myself either killed or stolen from when playing with people I don't know.

The game map is far more immense than you know and there are on average only `150 people playing. Even with 1000+ players at some world starts ya might not see someone for days.

150 people.. You didnt count on that everyone got atleast 5 bot accounts doing stuff

this is a great way to do it. also, get a custom client, like ender's, if you don't have one. not sure about others, but ender's has a fantastic highlight players option that'll show players within a small radius on your minimap.

To be honest, that really isn't going to help someone find another player, only notice them when they do get into range. The minimap only shows items in range that the client window renders, not items or players beyond that range, so the radar, while nice to make it easily visible, isn't necessary. (Beats playing zoomed all the way out, though, and missing smaller items to pixelation.)

Getting one of the 3rd party clients like Ender's is more a need for modern playing conveniences, like a larger window than 800x600, more hot buttons, resizable and movable windows, saving the map tile information... I could keep going, but you can try it and see what all there is to it.
