I thought you could read a mine in a cave but it not be in that cave, I thought I read that somewhere? Espcially since while I was in the cave at one of the dead ends it read 2 mines..not only the copper mine I had been lookinf for , but also read a Tin mine and said 1%. Looked something like this
"Copper at 69% of usfeul, Tin at 1% of useful" As I said, after hours of running around that cave the hottest reeading I got was at deep bottom wall that said 76%. So I don't think it's in there. When I went in the upper directional path of the cave the readings only got weaker.

i think jorb meant he was wandering the countryside looking for another cave entrance nearby.

Prospecting in cave with positive results means that there is a mine in a cave x distance away. It is not necessarily accessible from the cave you're in. You can't find aboveground mines from within a cave, and vica versa.

Yeah unless you're really hard up for metal, mines in cave are just a pain in the ass. Cause you have to walk all the way too it for each load of ore (assuming your hearth fire is at the entrance)

Well then, like I saw in another post, once again there are readings with NO cave entrances with 1000 tiles (and the hottest reading was 76%). I searched the whole area, ever face, cut down every tree that shadowed every face in over 1000 tiles in ALL directions of this cave, was a whooping waste of a day and a migrane (a little less respect, sorry, for the game). After playing awhile I am seeing some aspects are really way too tedious and rediculous for the average gamer. It's way way way too much work for too little reward, if you get any at all which is usually not, for many of the things required to do. (Or that most gamers would want to try to do) in the game. The underground cave system is repulsive, and needless, to be that huge (And I've never seen a cavebulb once) 2 hour walks to check caves that may or may not be close to or even on the same map as what could possibly be a mine somewhere that could or could not be this cave or that cave...whew..migraine city. Wanna make mine's rare, fine, make them rare, put them in place, and who ever gets there first can toast success...all this creepy "complication" is just that, tedious and off-putting.

The correct cave entrance doesn't have to be within a certain distance of the cave you leave. The mine does. So if the correct cave has an entrance 1000 tiles from the mine and the mine is 1000 tiles from the wrong cave entrance than you would have to search 4,000,000 square tiles rather than 1,000,000.

Obviously caves are stupid right now, they haven't been developed at all. It's been stated that their functionality will be further developed.

Criticisms of caves/mines are fine and well deserved, albeit criticisms that have already been made many times. It's not in the least bit appropriate to resort to an emotional attack on the game (and by extension the developers) in your frustration. This sort of behavior is totally unproductive as well as unkind.

We should be able to mine away cave wall tiles, so you can go through wall where you get the best reading.
