Generally when I fight stronger stuff, such as bears (Only 70 melee yet) I end up using dash for IPs to keep my defense up, and after 6 IPs, alternate flex and slide to keep my defense up while sneaking in IPs from dash when I can.

On lower level stuff, opportunity knocks is kind of a waste, as a nice sting (Wasn't sting sword only? I always thought it and valorous were, and he said he was using an axe. I've never bothered to fight with a stone axe.) will often take off more of their defense bar for much less IP.

If you plan to fight foxes, keep near a building, gated fence, or water, because they do not run out of stamina, and if you have to run you're not going to escape without a refuge of some sort.
