ranger bow is epical damage but takes a small age to aim. a good ganking is 2 good marksmen taking aim when the oppertunity presents itself(ranger bow is a must, anything less jus wont do), the 2nd fireing just after the first to ensure a kill, if it still isnt enough to score a kill then melee are usefull to finish the job, and ofcourse protect the otherwise fragile rangers while on the move or in camp.

Bronze helmet, q10: 40/40
Bronze plate, q10: 100/100
Vapntreyiu, q10: 10/10
Leather pants, q10: 25/25
Ranger boots, q10: 15/15

Total: 190/190 (380 combined)

Ranger's bow, q10: 300 damage max
Bone arrow, q10: 20 damage max

Total: 320 damage max

So yeah, you're not going to do anything to an armoured target with any bow. It doesn't help that it's generally harder to raise ranger's bow q than to raise armour q.

Daaayyyuumm. If one ever manages to get the resources to craft a high quality Ranger's Bow (aka. have very high q mulberry wood), they'll be able to also make high enough quality metals for armour that could block anything the bow can theoretically dish out.

(Where'd you get the info for the math one max damage?)

My rule is to not raise my marksmanship over 2x the highest quality of the ranger bow. For active PvP, melee is the choice but since because palisades can block the strongest players of the game, some form of ranged weapon may be needed. The biggest example is the death of the tricities raiders whose hearthfire are surrounded by brick walls but still summonable. The walls prevent us from melee kiling them but not a ranger bow.

@Potjeh, Eventually with enough ranger bow you'll destroy the armor and expose them to more damage with enough arrows. Did you also factor in the arrow in the damage?
If you keep focusing on the shadow behind, you will not see the light in front of you.

Being successful isn't just about hard work and succeeding, it is also about picking yourself up when you fail.

q 90 ranger bow 900damage
q 140arrows 70isch? damage
970damage, x2 rangers = 1940damage, trust me, you will die. even q 90 steel plate and helmet blocks 675, even at 800with other stuff thats still 2 hits of 170damage that get to you before you even know you are being attacked. can you handle that? and the melee warriors now charging at those few who do manage to survive.

sure thats something almost nobody can get..... almost.

Uhm, you can't add the damage like that to get around armour blocking. You need to double the total armour then. And if all armour gear is at q90 (vapntreyiu will be lower, but plate and helmet higher), that's 1140 total damage reduction per hit, or 2280 on that 1940 (800 damage to armour, and bronze plate alone would have like 4500 hp at that q). And you only hit for max damage once in a blue moon. And this is still just bronze gear.

And you *don't* want to fight a full melee warrior in melee if you wasted much lp on marksmanship.

and thats why you need both, melee warriors for general fighting and against the high armor targets, and rangers for the free hidden shots of oppertunity and for when melee just wont reach it.

oh and your numbers are to high, q90 is x3 , bronze is 100/100 not 133/133, prob calculated the rest to high aswel....

When did I say 133/133?

But basically, archers will still be just dead weight, because your average damage is actually just 3/4 of the max, assuming your per is equal to his agi (highly unlikely, since thanes give a lot of agi).

when you said q90 bronze takes 800damage, which at x3 armor would be 133/133 is what i was gonna say but i think i read your reply wrong.

still i dont feel like convincing you of the rangers value, i like being one of the few decent rangers out there.

If you don't believe me, let's meet in 'Nople. I'll give you 2 free shots, and then kill you.

But I'm not saying ranger bow is useless. It's much faster for hunting than melee.
