Getting in and out can be very annoying when you can't port and you're using an alt as a gatekeeper. A sound compromise is having double gates (ie you have to pass through both to get in or out). Give the key of one gate to an alt and always keep it open, carry the key of the other with you and keep it closed, opening it only to get in or out. If somebody steals the second gate's key off you, immediately log in the alt and close the first gate.
