If you are near Ironcliff:

1. You are in the NE/NNE grids, iirc.
2. Port Eyrie is a palasaded village ~10 minutes directly east of Ironcliff's docks (east side of mountain) by boat
3. You are ~3-4 hours from Constantinople by boat.
4. Get the fuck out of there. Ironcliff is NOT friendly. It is one of the small mining villages and a hide-out of a well known group of criminals. It was recently flattened, but they will rebuild.

Alright, thanks again guys. I've built a boat, and with fishing I'm now able to actually get some food besides apples and nuts.

I've actually considered moving on anyway, since the area I'm in seems a little crowded, and I stupidly built my house some distance from the river, which means I have to carry my boat every time I want to fish. I'm thinking of heading south. Would that be ok, or is there something down there, that I should be aware of?

Also, I'm having some issues with turning pieces of rabbit fur into leather. I followed the directions on the wiki:

1) dry the fur
2) put the fur in a tanning tub
3) pour 60 liters (6 buckets) of water into the tub
4) put a piece of bark into the tub
5) wait for 8 hours

I've waited for 8 hours, but nothing seems to happen. I'm not sure what the percentage in the tanning tub interface means, though. It seems to go up and down (it was at 93, now it's 92). Am I doing something wrong?

Edit: one more thing: I noticed that the rowboat has two compartments, but I'm not sure what fits inside. I suppose a cupboard is out of the question? What about a smaller container?

Take the tub outside of your house. Every time you leave your house, the tub will reset back to 92%, so you'll either need to stay in the house with the tub until it finishes, or leave it outside like most people do.

What about the quality level? I rarely forage up things higher than q10, and I either eat them or toss them in the river for taking up inventory space.

Q10 is perfectly acceptable for herbs and fish. Fish value rises faster with q than herbs value, at least for me, but it mostly depends on fish type - eel is most valuable. Bricks are for repairs and linen is for flags, so q doesn't matter for them. Pearls gain a lot of value with q, q20+ can fetch the same price as two q10s.

Thanks. Just to be clear: if I leave the tub outside, and then go inside, it won't reset to 92?

edit: nevermind, it seems that it doesn't.

The funniest thing just happened to me. I was down by the river, digging for clay to make into bricks. I ran out of stamina, so I went AFK for a little while, reading some articles on the wiki, while my character rested. All of a sudden, I hear the sound of combat, and quickly switch back to the game, thinking that I'm being attacked by a boar. It wasn't a boar, but some guy in a rowboat, firing his bow at me. Apparantly, he was Russian, since he had written something in cyrilic in the local chat.

Anyway, I decide to run for it, and when he sees me running, he quickly rows to the shore and starts following me, wawing a sword around. I run for a little while, thinking that I'm done for, considering that my stats are really low, so I probably can't outrun him, and I certainly can't beat him.

I don't know quite how it happened, but I managed to circle around him, run back to the boat, jump in and row away, leaving him at the shore. I even found time to laugh at him in the local chat. So I row the boat a good distance up the coast and go ashore. Before going home, though, I checked to see if the boat contained anything. I'm now the proud owner of 20 bars of q60 iron ore and 10 piles of q55 sand (what's that for?).

Thanks Russian Santa. :D

I wonder if that guy was one of the 'well known group of criminals'. Nice moves you made (who needs stats when ya got smarts?), and a very good reason to get outta town before he helps himself to some vengeance. I'd find a different river to row away on just to be safe~

Oh, and sand is used with kilns to make raw glass.

Well, he found and killed me. I should have run straight away, or at least dumped the iron in the river.

Oh, well. I guess my new character will be sailing south right away.

Sad end to a good story, but hindsight's 20/20 and all. At least you have an ancestor now, I guess?
