Decided to read through the whole thread, some opinions and suggestions I have in regards to some of the issues that came up earlier:
1) This should be stickied. It's not like you can't un-sticky it later when/if he re-posts. As a fresh hearhling, finding this thread was a godsend.
2) This should be on the forums & the wiki. Personally, and I'm sure lots of my gamer comrades would agree, forums are the place to go for guides/walkthroughs. So having links to this on the wiki would be fine, but this should definitely be easily found on the forum. In fact you may want to consider a sub-sections specifically for guides/walkthroughs.
3) Water foraging vs. land foraging. As I stated earlier I set up camp bout a 5min crawl away from the nearest river. Following the guide, I got boatmaking first and made a boat. The area that I am in doesn't seem to have many people, so traveling by water offers as much or more forageables as running around w/ 3 flasks (to keep being able to run). I can't speak for more heavily populated area's though.
-I will have to say that while water foraging seems to be more plentiful for me, I think land foraging is equally important. Knowing about your surroundings is nice, and safe. Having to be responsible for a boat and whatever you have in it as opposed to just being able to hearth at a moments notice has always got me on edge. Though, I still haven't found a flotsam...(just went on a ~30min boating expidition w/ 20 exploration)
4) I think you should mention leather working (backpacks primarily), herb tables (vs. putting WWW on drying racks) and things associated w/ those two some where in your guide. Probably after yeomanry as once you get those things you'll probably not want to lose them. Having a backpack makes things so much easier and efficient. And once you start having leather come in you're going to want to have somewhere else to dry your WWW's. (Just re-read and noticed you mentioned herb tables in the farming section, but I think you should also mention them in the -general- section of the guide)
5) At this point (a week or two into the game), I've got the basic premise of a self sustaining homestead in the forest, I've got plans for my farm, and what I'll be doing on a day to day basis & where I want to take my character (stats/skills/objectives/role). And while I know roughly how quality factors into things, I'm not very clear on the necessity of higher quality items in relation to the items I'm working with (leather/seeds/food). So I would suggest a section, or just a mention of what things you should be looking to get a higher quality to improve what you're working with (for example I just replaced my Q5 fishing pole after having caught most of my fish with it already and not realizing it was reducing their quality, or does it...?)
6) Definitely cover the attributes you'll want and how to go about getting foods that will enhance them. Address FEP and how eating different foods lowers the total # of FEP's you'll need. List some good ways of gaining FEP fast, tables, what you'll want on the tables, how they affect the FEP's & hunger you gain, and general knowledge surrounding attributes, FEP's, and food most new players are going to come into contact with.
Misc.) I would cover the holding shift while placing things, and any other tricks/tips/keyboard commands. For foraging might want to talk about how to use the features on enders client (for example, finding out how to hide the tree's and bushes was great for me), as well as the already mentioned aggro radius.
That's all that's coming to my head right now. I know all of this stuff can be found on the wiki or in other threads (cause that's where I found it), but it would have been a lot more convenient to have it mentioned here in this guide.
Once again, thanks for this guide really made my experience much more enjoyable.
Oh and also...
