Well, you're right in that jorb didn't change the code. ;)

I'm not sure what he meant by "zero luck involved" though. If you can mine on a tile in FRESH minehole and cause a cave-in, there's the "luck" factor. I've just learned to take what they say with a grain of salt. Usually they're pretty straight up with the mechanics (when they do answer a post about them), but I've seen them toss out half answers and let us continue to try and figure them out.

Also, the easiest change may not fix any of the bugs or exploitable mechanics. The "easiest change" is the one that fixes the problem without creating more. If that means changing a few lines of code, great! If that means completely redesigning the algorithm, then that's what it takes. The "problem" is that this isn't a major commercial game. It's a permanent alpha/beta, and changes are made public that may not be completely optimal because there's only so much internal testing two people can do to make sure something works without being exploited. Your Warcrafts and other commercial MMOs have multiple stages of testing to make sure the worst of the bugs never even make it to the public test servers. Damn backseat hackers

Edited: The image proof we have got earlier in the topic shows that the guy mined in the corner of a fresh mine hole, which suggests he may have not followed the rule "stand on cave floor and don't have wall or mined tiles behind you"

Anyone have info about cave-in damage?
Like a general range of a single cave-in hit to a character at each level in the underneath?
Work on a mining thread for me. Here are my shitty mining notes. http://www.havenandhearth.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=31382&p=442398#p442398

50*level. But you can catch 2-3-4-5 boulders at one tile.

Help with mining

Postby RiotsHere » Sat Sep 14, 2013 11:03 pm

I have 32 str. not sure what str plays a part of I dont really care about quality of the metal i get right now. I searched all over and can't find a safe way to mine inside this cave I found. I can't build supports without metal and I can't get metal without huge rocks crushing my face...

Do you have a village claim? I will give you some metal nuggets for your first support.
Oh also: It's indeed tricky since there's no snake mining, so you'll probably die finding your first metals alone.

I don't have a claim and I really don't want to give people info like that no offence. I really just wanted to mine inside this cave idk what my chance is of finding anything, but right now I just mine one tile on the side then move to the next spot idk if that is even a good way because it takes forever

Slap a good axe, bear cape and talisman onto an alt (and if you can, feed the alt boar and bear meat as much as you can), take some time to read this:
viewtopic.php?f=2&t=31382
and try prospecting above the cave if possible, to find approximately where the node is.
