It usually is pretty fast. You're likely very weak. STR up.

Take a bucket of wine with you and get drunk. Make some boar tusk snuff if you have poppies. Snuff it, start mining, and the buff counts until you quit mining. It won't take long to get hungry enough to really boost strength. Also, check the quality on the rocks. They may be better for making an axe with than your current one. You do have a bear cape and bear tooth talisman, right?

Nope, used my first bear skin for straps to make a good bow and sling. I'll make a cape as soon as I find another and I do have snuff and wine available, so I'll use that.

Yeah that time it takes to mine depends on the hardness of the stone, if you get a bear cape, bear tooth necklace, and drink some wine. Also raise the Q of your axe which helps.

Is there a difference between sturdy, straw and bough beds apart from the materials?
Does a sturdy bed decrease travel weariness faster than a straw or bough bed?

EDIT-Im also guessing that the quality doesnt matter ?

From what I can tell, quality does matter with beds. Also, the better beds work better, ie straw works better the spruce bough, sturdy works better than straw.

I looked on the wiki and found nothing (but i imagine it would be difficult and time consuming to even find out if they did indeed make a difference) but your more experienced than i, and it wouldnt hurt to construct a sturdy bed just in case.
Thanks magic,
