Yes, the smaller the pie size, the more accurate your heading is. The pie slice means that your target is located somewhere in that range of directions. A wide pie slice means that you may be heading several dozens of degrees in the wrong direction. A smaller pie slice is much more telling of the direction of your prey.

Thanks for quick reply but what about the delta?

Dev's have stated that the hive quality does not matter.

Then how do you explain the mysterious hive behavior that people are reporting?

Also, another question: one needs vandalism to harvest crop when trespassing, correct?

I don't but I also don't attach meaning to things without evidence. To be entirely honest I don't understand how bee hives and wax work, it is a science I have not mastered. That said, I'm not going to assume that the devs and swathe of experienced other players who've commented on this are wrong.

The delta is just the value the server sends to the client so it knows how big to draw the pie slice. The "heading" is merely the direction the slice should be centered on. Therefore, the target could be anywhere between the two rays dictated by the edges of the pie wedge. Heck, it's even possible to have a delta large enough that you get no direction (ie a complete circle)--forget the delta value on this, though.
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.

AFAIK the delta value is done in degrees so 360 would be full circle.

No, you will log in and stand on the water. You cannot move unless you toggle swimming and swim to the shore. Or you'll have to teleport yourself to your hearth fire.
So never log out in a boat in deep water.
Hope you have a great day

Been hermiting for a little while, have come up with a few questions:
1. When dowsing inland, can the water quality of a dowsed spring be learned without having to build a well there?
I'm not excited about the prospect of building 20-30 wells only to learn they're all Q10 water...

2. Are Anthill raids (partially) based on Nature/Industry slider? Now that I'm at full Nature, I seem to get nothing from Anthills about 50% of the time, or so. :( Although, after my 1st 'empty' raid, I haven't done too many Anthill raids, so the 'sample' is somewhat small.

3. For forestland upkeep, what is the radius that any given tree will support? Will stumps help with this, or are unchopped trees necessary? Am looking at clearing new space, but don't want it all going grassland on me.

There is no way to determine this. If you are near a river, and you notice that the quality of the water seems to peak right at the shore, then the center of the node might be inland a little bit. Building a well somewhere near there may reveal higher q water. If you're a little further away from a river, though, there is no way to tell without building a well.

If you've built a well, and the water is q10, then it is safe to assume that all nearby wells will also be q10.
