1. Try searching the forums. Often things get posted here and the wiki doesn't get updated. Otherwise, nobody has probably put it to the test yet and reported what they know.

The miner helm reduces damage taken by half. The damage is multiplied by the level you're on per rock hitting you. It is possible to take enough hits on L1 to kill any character.

Forgot to re-read this:

On the first level each rock deals 50 damage (armor does nothing). The average cave in seems to be 1-4 rocks, but I've been hit by 8 rocks on L1 for a solid 400HP of damage. Cave ins on L1 are serious enough, but it gets worse. Each descending level deals twice the damage of the previous one, per rock. 100 for L2, 200 for L3, 400 for L4 and a whopping 800 damage per rock on L5. With 1-4 rocks average, I like to call cave in deaths on L5 "instasmoosh".

Pretty sure when you get a cave-in with a miner's helm your SHP gets cut in half. Forget what happens with HHP.

I wanted to know if it's possible to retrieve bones from human carcasses. I've checked the wiki, and if I'm reading it right, it says I can gather bones both from animal corpses (chickens, rabbits, etc) AND from hearthling corpses, but nothing happens when I right click the human skeletons I have found lying around.
