MagicMan, can you say whether or not this is correct. Can I "discover" a metal bar if it is for sale in a barter stand?

You can discover bar of metal. This statement only means that you may only request items that you have physically in your inventory (and you've stated that you've got bar of metal).

How do you discover vinegar? only by taking it from a barrel? there isn't any other way to discover it?

Yes, vinegar.
You may discover it also by pouring from bucket into wine bottle or by using barter stand (as mentioned before).

Here's how this works:

1.Build the stand
2. Get your bar of metal (or other item you own you don't have the discovery points for)
3. Get another item easily obtainable (can be anything)
4. Place item you need to discover in the stand to sell it
5. Set the price to whatever else you have in your inventory
6. "Buy" the item from the stand and you can retrieve the other item you paid for it with.

note: I can't recall if you have to use an alt to set up the sale or not.

How do you check your coordinates?

There is no easy way to get your coordinates. You just have to search across algeralith's map. If you can get a large enough area explored, you can use the local map cache in Ender's to get a bird's eye view of your surrounding area for identifiable landmarks. Open the map folder and then map.html

The owner of the stand can't buy from their own stand but the owner of the stand can change when it's empty.

confirm this:
Chickens are unique as they can die in the inventory without doing anything to them.
Rabbits, Jackalopes (also less importantly frogs and rats) stay alive unless you do something to them.

Confirmed. AFAIK it's because they need fodder.

Since when can you catch Jackalopes?

I was asking because I've just caught my first rabid jackalope.

Jackalope is an extremely rare curiosity you sometimes get instead of a rabbit when you catch one.

Can someone tell what I exactly need for a crossroad? The info on the wiki makes my eyes bleed.
