Indeed, without using an external source of higher quality seeds, it is not possible to get any seeds +4 above soil quality.
The average will range from 2.2 (when replanting the best of three seeds) to 3.2 (when replanting the better third of one cupboard) above soil quality.
When buying higher quality seeds (nonrecurring), they will also quickly degenerate to said average.

This is not true at all except for pumpkins and tea. Your average is still going up every harvest, just much slower, if you are full nature.

My results do not support this. Most of my crops are in Q22/23 soil and I am seeing steady increases with most crops at mid 30's to a few in the high 40's as of last harvests.

I took Loftar's sentence "crop quality is now softcapped by soil quality" too literally.
So there is indeed no real limit to crop quality, which also means I got to raise my farming even further. :(
Funny how some theories appear to prove themselves (in this case, due to me not raising farming above what I thought was necessary).

Though if you raise above the soil Q the crops get softcapped - thus when getting +5 above soil Q, it'll get softcapped -> 5/2 = 2.5 ~ 2.
+4 = 2 aswell.

Replanting these "Higher Q Seeds" will just result in a harder cap, and finally hardcapping the crops at about +3 or +4 points above Soil Q.

Did you check my link? It's not a softcap, it's simply a change in the random range.

If you read that, that really does look like it should be impossible to increase your Q above +5 over soil. Clearly there's a missing link (I'd assume farming skill lvl) if people are still able to raise their levels further.

No no, I wasn't thinking about the full nature = 3 seeds thing. If you take the average of -5 -> +2 of two seeds, you get an average quality change of 0 if you replant your highest seed.

-5 -4 *-3* -2 -1 *0* +1 +2

but with full nature you get an average of slightly more than +1 per generation.

-5 *-4* -3 -2 *-1.5* -1 0 *+1* +2
