When I just started my most recent character, I grinded fires.
I got basic skills, got some Lp, got the shit I needed for fishing, found a nice spot (with eels) and left it. Plenty of Lp until I got farming, then i planted a carrto seed and now I have a 100 tile carrot plantation.

I need to plant more carrots :/

It's responses like these that give you a good idea of what kind of people inhabit this game world. God forbid someone give this guy some good advice. L2P doesn't cut it. Yet, so long as people continue to have this attitude toward others, I'm sure this game will remain as it is instead of advancing to something great. That said, there are some decent folk I've met, and if I had an answer to the OP's original question I'd be more than happy to help.

In my experience, fishing is a good way to get some medium-paced, easy LP. That's what I normally do.

Incorrect, good sir. The best advice someone could give to the OP is to just play the game, as like have been said. Doing what you can to prepare for the future with what you can do best now is an easy way to get LP without worrying about getting the exacts you need. You need Yeomanry for a claim? Cut down trees, stumps until you think you have enough to make the palisade around your wall. By the time you believe you have enough you'll have reached the LP you wanted in the first place. Fishing is, like the person above me said, is a great way for LP while furthering yourself with food stores.

But yes, this is a good way to see what people play this game. Most don't like people grinding because it seems like people trying to advance in the game without actually playing, which revokes the whole purpose for this world. Clear cutting forests looks ugly and is extremely wasteful of resources. While it is possible to replant trees, it generally takes quite some time compared to how often people need logs / blocks / boards / branches.
