The problem with incentives is that rewarding a donation with the donator knowing beforehand he'll get something in exchange makes it no longer a donation, but a transaction. Therefore, CashShop.

However what the guy with the creepy avatar suggested seems viable.

I <3 you forever

Lets be honest, we'd all like to be able to donate a bit to make this game less laggy or maybe get some new update.. but really, there's not a super strong incentive to donate for most of us (especially since a large majority of the players are college students and such, pretty sure). I think something that a novelty, cosmetic item would be a nice little "hey look, I donated! if you want a cool shield, you should too!" kind of deal. For one, it distinguishes you as a player who cares about the progress of the game, and secondly it's a walking advertisement for people to donate. You totally know you'd want some bad-ass looking weapon/armor, even if the stats were identical to what you had already.

Realistically though, I don't expect a cash shop of any kind to open up any time soon.

Cash shop is always game-spoiler, no matter how big or small bonuses it gives and no matter if visuals only or what. If the game developers find they need more money to run the server, I would rather see small fee for playing than cash shop. 5 bucks a month should be affordable for most and times let's say 600 players it will keep server alive and devs happy for sure.

Maybe if someone will pay 5 bucks a month for a game, he will first read the wiki before paying and we will get less posts on forum like: Heeeh why I can not kill that boar? I click on dodge rapidly as hell and it always hits me first :]

How do visuals spoil the game? I guess it might make you jealous and want to buy a donation shield.. but that's about all. I wouldn't mind as long the new stuff wasn't over the top, like I don't want to see people running around with skins that make them look like they belong in a different game.

So the idea is that if it doesn't do anything beneficial or potentially even actively detriments you, the cash shop is fine. Absolutely nothing changes so the argument is technically true. The Devs are never going to implement a cash shop but if you were to do something with you, you have to make anything purchased there completely locked to the character/account that purchased it. Buying cash items and then selling them to players is gaining an advantage. You're directly turning real world money into valuable assets in HnH, thus providing an unfair advantage. Nothing along the lines of bonuses or equipment would be acceptable either as that actively benefits players in some fashion, even if the item/bonus becomes dated and useless shortly thereafter.

Essentially, you'd be buying skins and hair cuts for your doll. While gimmicky, it's not exactly a treasure trove and would likely be more trouble than its worth as it draws negative attention from merely existing. A lot of people would opt against it, as having unique looks makes you easy to identify and an easy target -- or easy to emulate. With the ability to emulate the look of newbies, players are brutally efficient at gaining trust and entry into communities.

Another issue is do the changes disappear when you die? Death is permanent and so anything you buy is impermanent. One could easily feel scammed should they purchase things for a character and then die. People already feel the world is out to get them as it is.

It just doesn't seem like a viable or useful idea.

Thanks, you explained detailed what was on my mind in my post and I just did not have the writing skills to point out the stuff in detail. All your points are absolutely correct.

I will add one - if you make stuff locked only to a char/account it drastically lowers the interest for the paid stuff and the range of people who would pay for that will be just few and that will not be worth of implementation.

It would more or less serve as unlocking certain patterns and recipes for use in the game, not merely limiting them to one character. That way you would always get to "reap the benefit" of the donation, but you still have to actually achieve that point in-game.

If you locked to the account only, it would still have an interest. Character only, not so much.

So then you want it to give an unfair advantage to those who pay money then?
