Foragin pros:
- Can be quick/slow depending on what pace you want to set
- high reward, if you do it right
- you're bound to make allies, if you're any good at it
- The less gear you have, the better; though your equipment has to work!
- Will make you very hungry, and often raise travel weariness significantly
Foragin cons:
- Might make some enemies along the way
- can stunt your max HP, or result in permadeath
- leaves scents
wait.. did I mix that up somehow? hmm..
Depends on how far I wander. I can fill my 24 slots up in under 20 minutes just picking everything I see. That's usually about 2000-2400 lp depending on what I find. (Haven't done a careful count on this.) If I dump the crap (taproots, nettles, low qual shrooms and berries, etc), I can make more per excursion. It can be a bit rough on the travel bar, though. That's what good wine and tobacco is for. I'm not sure how it would stunt your max HP. Chant & Onion Pirozhki is pretty good Con food. The random bears and boars are the downside, though. Also, you only leave scents if you want to leave them. Nobody says you have to turn on criminal acts. If you can get backpack, merchant robe, and a couple good sacks, you can get a lot more per trip. Plus, people pay good for high quality blueberries and chants. Still not sure it's better than mining LP/hour, but I think I can say it can be better than a slow day hunting.
edit: should say that the lp i get for my bagful of goodies is based on full bonuses.
