Botters and metagamers will, as always, have an LP advantage over people who play the game "normally".

The difference is the advantage should be something like 5:1 instead of 10,000:1

the great thing about curiosities is that you have to do stuff to get them

I mean you gotta make keys for everybody and distribute them or something, what if you lock someone out because you had to go AFK during that time and no one even knew about the wall? Silly, unlikely circumstance, but just saying :P I wouldn't want my villagers building new palisades overnight.

You made copies of keys and handed them out to villagers . Why don't they just use crossroads and hearthing or village travel to get in?

I only opened my first gate to haul in logs and there where 3 gates in the front and in the back. First gate was just a loading/trading area and I did make copies of the gates in that area which I left on a sleeping alt just in case some jackass decided it would be a fun idea to kill me while I'm hauling logs in so he can lock me inside.

Any time where you used to be able to go "oh, I can't do anything useful right now, I'll grind out more LP till I can do make a better _____ or till I can do ________" has now become "well.. I can't get any more LP, I can't make any more useful items.. cya in a few hours when the curiosity circles around!"

I also think this will be a problem.. that's why I wanted to curve LP a la http://www.havenandhearth.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=16274&start=20#p188458 <-this idea instead of introducing curiosities.

With curved LP you would tone the botter advantage way down but still have incentive to "just play another hour". Plus the tedium of certain chores would be allayed by immediate LP gain.

But, curiosities are a reality.. and there's a good chance I'm wrong about their potential problems :D

A lot of muds kept track of kills, and the more of the same kind one does the less exp one gets. It would require a massive amount of information to store but doing a varity of task would be worth a lot more than grinding the same thing. However, maybe a slight advantage at relative stats increasing if one is grinding so specialist might gain LP slower but the stats in what they are grinding increase. Even better one would get LP bonuses for making an item in a skill (cooking, mining ect) set for the first time in x hours. I think I like this idea better

Krugz wrote:Hey! So I haven't seen anyone else ask this yet, so I'd like to ask:

If you stock up your LP curiosity stuff to the point of not being able to gain any more than you already have; what incentive is there to keep playing on that character? *edit:* Per day/hour/whatever, as in "I've got no more room for curiosity, and they are going to take X amount of time to finish.. *log off*"

Similar vein of thought:
If you are always getting full on how much LP you can gain for a while, what's to stop people from botting up multiple characters at once and building a huge army rather than the previous system where people would bot up 1 character to godly stats?

What has been asked, can not be unasked.

Answer:Keep several characters up to date.

The best curiosities will most likely take so much to make though that you won't keep up.
Also raising INT should raise amount you can hold, so basically you should reach a point where you can use every curiosity at the same time unless there is another limit.

from what im reading the new lp system was to prevent grinding and botting.

this replaced grinding for food and equipment for lp gain with a need to grind for items specifically to get lp on top of whatever it was that you originally would do in w4 (food grind, equipment grind). this seems counter to the communist overtones in the w5 launch note, as everyone will now be producing less for their village because theyll be off running around looking for curiosities to benefit themselves.

curiosities add a tediousness to the game that actually motivates using bots. whats stopping someone from creating a bot that can make curiosities. ideally you would want a system that was harvesting curiosities as a bot so that, on your personal time so that you could do whatever and not have to worry about that stuff (perfect bot application). not that i used or intend to use bots, im just throwing up an argument against this new system.

I'm already taking my own advice and splitting my gameplay between 2 characters. I run around on one for a bit, make cow cones whenever they break, and then switch.. back and forth... honestly it's very boring. We were all excited (my villagers and I), already I am the only one left.. everyone else got bored and went to bed. *shrugs* I'm waiting to get a boat and then I'll see how I feel about it..
