I probably should make some kind of sticky quoting Jorbs text to illustrate why it is necessary that H&H works like it does. I am just too lazy right now.

That was some interesting reading, Thanks.

My point is though, if you're so skilled and hardcore, you should be out fighting bears and other experienced players, if you are actually looking for a challenge, not some noob farmer trying to crawl his way up the experience ladder, what's the point in that?

I see that this topic has been covered more than once by the dev's so there's no point having another debate on it.

Why did one tribe raid another tribe? One city-state? Eventually the idea of tribute came around to just give a portion of what would have been taken and lives would be spared. It's a concept some didn't like (because they were bloodthirsty, even cannibalistic).

There are plenty of 'crafting-centric' games like this that don't allow the open PvP. Why aren't the people asking about forcing consensual only PvP out playing those? A Tale in the Desert is great. (It's also a monthly sub.)

Honestly, in the future, these threads just need to be locked and pointed to the appropriate discussion. I think it's a great debate on philosophy and civilization as a whole, but trying to get this changed would be like asking WoW to suddenly be a Star Wars-esque space opera.
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.

Games ABOUND that are completely domestic or completely violent. This is the only MMO that deeply integrates both. Please don't ruin that.

UO completely wrecked itself when it split into Felucca and Trammel. Instead of a varied and interesting world we had a gankfest on one side and a yawnfest on the other.

No worries, the developers have no intentions of ever doing so.

Permadeath is like... the only thing that is really unique about the game.

I’m a complete and utter newbie when it comes to the combat system and I think I always will be, quick clicking the right buttons and remembering what things do is not a strong point of mine. I enjoy this game like others for its survival, exploration and farming fun, not to fight other people or have all my stuff wrecked when I log off.

But please don’t change the PVP.

Boars are a pain, Bears are deadly but people are what this game is about. You get to see what humans are like – both the good and the bad – and learn so much in how to deal with them. This is more then a game it is an experiment and I can’t wait to see some of the results.

i do agree with you, this is a very entertaining worldwide social experiment, and once you get the hang of it the combat system isnt that confusing, the hard part is trying to figure out the formula's to remember what each attack does. though to help you understand find a friend and spar with him until you know the system

I've slowly evolved out of a non-combative character into more of one sense world 3. I join a village and say I want to farm they give me seeds I farm I have troubles. If you want a grief free zone join a decent village and just don't leave the walls and if an archer comes by run inside. That is the grief free zone. Sure it can be broken but I've never had trouble. Keep the warriors feed and you never have to fight.

Though I'd love (for a short time) to see a server where you can't attack a character without a scent and just bot massive hemp fields and slowly increase the Village claim size infinitely. Its not griefing in anyway but there's nothing to stop a small group of bots from infinitely doing this never stop replanting them never increase any skills. It might be fun for a while but that's what everything would become.
