Ehh, I guess in that scenario sure. But to make such a broad generalization that EVERYONE who does is RETARDED is a bit much. There's plenty of hermits and small communities out there that don't need more than a couple necklaces. And I don't think that excess pearls will be worth enough as trade items as they are as curiosities, though I could be wrong.

Certainly at this point in the game those 1-3 pearl necklaces won't be available to a hermit unless they've been doing nothing but cooking mussels constantly.

As for trade goods go though... I'd think they'd be worth a fair bit. Even if the group in question has their pearl necklaces they need, no one will ever have an excess of pearls considering how quickly they study. Collect a few of em and you could probably get some nicer resources/items for em.

The comment may have been worded a touch heavy, but I don't disagree with the concept. Unless you've got a gold mine or something and have pearls being traded in by the crateful that is. For everyone else it's just too valueable for the LP it provides. Heck, a necklace will pay itself off in 1 week for the moderate rate of LP that I've been gaining.
