You can actually go four in line, then two right or left, then four in a line.

what king zig-zag is more safer than my zig-zag? or maybe another pattern?



Remove the boulders... Boulders increase the chance of a cave in. If there are too many boulders, even mining one tile out will cause a cave in.

It's as safe as snaking actually. I'd say you get a cave in once in every... maybe 500 tiles? I've gotten a cave in just mining the normal non-diagonal snake pattern. Makes me slightly wary of deep mining lol.
