@Up

Eee... read what someone posted above mine post?

I was saying that ql of sand is affected by map. Better shovel/survival/dunno what wont give you better ql sand. Sand is based on map only. Right?

Completely correct. That goes for any digging.
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.

Oh, srry, I misunderstood you there... Yes indeed, it's only based on map.
Hope you have a great day

Bumped to say:

Q >30 crucible, Q30 glass and charcoal, L1 smithing = Q17 prisms. Oops. Full industry, too.

So it looks like it's softcapped by smithing, but shouldn't they have come out Q15? Or might it be something delightful like SQRT smithing*psyche?

I'll try and go and get more sand later and see what happens as I increase my smithing.

Not enough data here to tell. I'm pretty certain coal Q means nothing since it doesn't affect anything else in the process. I just used Q40ish crucible and Q25 coal but still got Q47 prism from Q47 glass.

Since it came out Q17, it definitely has a skill involved. There's no way you can get any stat to cap a 30 input below 20. It goes against usual crafting logic that jorb/loftar use that it would be psyche. easy to test though. Drink some wine and try again after testing with no wine. We also need to know your STR PER and DEX since those would be the other candidate capping candidates.

Ok, PER is 26, DEX is 30, STR 49

So a softcap of SQRT (either PER or DEX)*smithing makes sense, yes? 35/2 = 17.5 = 17. STR would give me Q18 prisms.

I should have saved some of that glass for better glasses, damn it (and got someone else to make them, apparently). Off to get more sand....

(and if I get murdered on the way, I'd like revenge in the name of mathematical accuracy!)

Both PER and DEX work to give Q17 prisms. If you could increase/decrease your PER (putting glasses on/off) for this that would tell us if it's that or DEX.

current plan is to eat carrots and make better glasses, the ones I've got don't get me far enough, I'll need +10 total!

OK.

Q30 glass, 28 PER, 30 DEX, 5 smithing = Q20 prism.
(also, as above with 32 smithing = Q29 prism)

I think this means the formula's Qprism = Qglass softcapped by SQRT(PER*smithing), yes?
(edited to clarify - with 5 smithing , SQRT(DEX*smithing) should give Q21, yes? and Q30 at or above 30 smithing).

I think Crusible and Fuel never mattered in anything.
