I have seen people protecting rams with their own brickwalls and strongboxes so it was impossible even to get to this ram without building your own.
Even palisade would be enough here if besieged village doesn't have anyone who can bash palis without ram

Seriously, bug abuse is the only way that villages get raided nowadays.

Counter rams? Where? Surely not outside. Not inside either - I would have to nuke my wall from inside to get to their ram to stop them from nuking the wall I just nuked myself :S

This is very likely a true statement. Juvember happens shortly after Feuarch.
