Not sure building wall near cliffs is a good idea.
Usually you'll have to build a lot of cornerposts and that's quite boring when it's brickwall cp.

Actually, I try to find a large area without edges, and build a wall with 5 cornerposts.

There's nothing wrong with building your wall next to a cliff as long as you build wall along that cliff. I agree that all those CPs are a waste of effort and resources, though. I like to just build in a straight line most of the time, though if I were to incorporate a cliff, I'd build straight for most of it and if there was a large area that would get cut out, I might shift over a few squares so I could maximize the area.

Four corner posts are the minimum to build any completely enclosed wall. Six corner posts are the minimum to build said wall with a gate. ;)

Five, actually. Well, technically four, but you can't fit much inside then.

True, that'd be a pretty narrow space to fit things. Yeah, five would be the minimum for a realistic palisade. I didn't even think of putting the gate at the corner (dur).

put the gate at the corner and make it square as large as you can against a diagonal running cliff. Given no other cliffs in the way you can build it as large as you want for only 4 CP 2 Initial. Basically the clif just takes a corner, not a side. The corner opposite the gate incidentally.
