There's not a lot of viruses in Java programs, though they can be pretty malicious themselves.

Best way to prevent getting viruses? Get a high quality AV program and use it liberally. Get the second, third, and fourth rated AV programs as backups to scan questionable files, too.

And seriously... learn to become a good hacker and fix the computer so that when it does blow up, it'll take a couple hours, at most, to restore it.

Viruses can't infect things unless you run them. If you aren't sure, just run it through your AV program. I myself have been playing for what... more than one and a half years without any breach of security, though my computer is slow due to other reasons(Half my RAM dedicated to a server, my main harddrive 5-15 GB away from being full all the time, etc.

Jorb and Loftar are both very trust-able people, who even now are making a commercial game called "Salem" under a very successful studio called "Paradox Interactive" - who have published numerous games that you can even find in stores, and run many MMO's. Salem is found on Paradox Plaza, their site, and a company as big as Paradox would not hire on developers who include viruses in a game.

You could always just download it and play it secretly for few weeks,months and days. After a while, tell him that you been playing and didn't get any viruses or something. He might be poed though

If he is worried that it contains a virus because he doesn't understand that independent things on the internet are often fine

(a) run a virus scan?
(b) inform him that J&L are also making Salem~ http://www.paradoxplaza.com/games/salem, a commercial game now, and they never would have got the money to do that if H&H contained malware.

You may also want to download enders client eventually, but you can direct him to the enders thread and invite him to search it for mentions of viruses...

His dad would just go on some sketchy porn site and download moarporn4evry1.exe and then blame the virus on H&H.
