Ugh, fishing is tooo complicated it almost appears random. Moon phases, string type, hook type, bait type and quality are all possibly factors that can be put into fishing (I think everything but the quality effects the type of fish). It also has some RNG elements as you can catch several types of fish within a small time frame. Its supposedly an algorithm but its far too complicated.

Too compare. Imagine if you planted WWWs and all plants gave WWWs as seeds. Then what plant you got the moon mattered, plow type, what crops are near it and if there is a beehive would change what you got. I mean that would suck.

Personally if it was just location, moon and bait to get one type of fish I'd be fine but its not.

Edit: OH and there could be a giant map that depended on location for what fish you got beyond just basic type of location.

which fish? and welcome back :D

Magic has it. The only other fish that's rarer than plaice (if you fish randomly) is eel I'd say.

Other than a specific moon setting, they can be found in cave fish nodes. And I've never even seen one of those. They're quite rare.

just remembered another 1, talking whale...

maybe we do need Loftar and/or Jorb to shed some light on a few game mechanics

as far as cave fishing nodes, I saw 3 last world, but yea they're pretty rare.

I'm pretty certain he was referring to the Talking Whale actually. It wasn't caught until 2-3 months into W5 iirc for the first time.

All I ever caught in my (q13 max :() cave fishing node was perch and brill. And what I was looking for was ... eels. Which I could catch quite happily in a river in W4, but not since.

Recent experience of squid-fishing boats suggests that they should be caught on a dark night, from a boat containing two people with torchposts over their heads and a torch in their free hand. Miners helmets with lit candles, pipes and possibly cavebulbs may also help.

... go on, try it. and send pics.
