Boars are instant reaggro. Freetaming boars last world took me less then 10 min to taim. The issue is that damn long taming cooldown. If a alt jumped me with combat med before I did that last taming move it did reduce it to some reasonable cooldown.

And as stated above. Cows / Sheep can be tamed fairly quickly using the trick where you deaggro the herd and reaggro on any herd member except the one your trying to taim.

14 coins, 3x Sidestep (could as well use Skuld for the first one/two), Consume The Flames, Quell

worked like a charm to me

But you lose SHP :/
I usually forget to feed and at very hungry, it's not good to lose SHP.
Get three more coins, 3 skulds, sting like a bee, quell.

that's what happens if you aggro the same mouflon, but it was working fine for me last night, so long as you don't do anything that would cause the animal that would be following you to stop doing so, it should work, which might include sailing far away, but I'm not sure, I was taming them on foot
Oh boy, here I go cheesemaking again...

Sailing away and running away both work.

just in case, are you making sure you have full combat advantage and 0 intensity before quell?

This.
If it says 0, it might not be completely 0, it might simply be less than 0.5.
I remember using consume the flames and, for some reason, that wouldn't work, I think it had to do with some bug that didn't get it to 0 intensity because the loss of SHP counted as a hit...? Quell didn't work even though I had 3+ advantage and 0 intensity, so I used sting like a bee instead, and it worked.

Tl;dr, to Arcanist, you should try using sting like a bee.
Edit: I read it again.

Turns out I wasn't de agroing the herd...

I use sting like a bee always, consume the flames uses too much health while taming and I become starving.
