What type of terrain, why you like it, and maybe why you dislike other terrain.

I settled down on some grassland, within spitting distance of a river, yet not so close as to attract unwanted attention.

Advantages:
- being able to run around without getting tired as fast as on forest terrain
- apple and hazle-nut trees (good food source for newbies)
- flocks of chicken (yet another good food source for newbies)
- herds of mouflons and aurochs (handy later on, if you plan on taming some; you can feed them four-leaf clover (which, coincidentally, also only grows on grassland) to get milk and wool, without having to tame them)
- it's easier to spot most plants on grassland, as there are few things that could obscure them
- the terrain is likely to attract other players

Disadvantages:
- few trees, so setting up camp close to the forest edge is recommended
- the terrain is likely to attract other players (possible griefers)

just my two cents ;)

EDIT: Forgot one detail: a water source is a must-have. So finding a well-spot before setting up the real thing is recommended, since filling a tanning tub requires six buckets full of water.

Well here's the advantages/disadvantages of setting up camp in a forest.

Advantages
-Lots of trees for resources.
-Few people will find you here including griefers.
-You can find most of the plants you can forage here.
-Lots of places to hide in.

Disadvantages
-Boars and bears normally reside here.
-The numerous trees obscure your vision.
-Boars and/or bears can hide behind the trees and slaughter you in less than a second.
-You'll normally bump into trees at night.
-Less food unless you have a high enough foraging skill to constantly find food.
-Normally less space for building due to the numerous trees.
-You can normally only walk because of the dangers of encountering boars or bears of which the latter, you'll need to run from.

So that's my two cents in this topic. ;)

Add to the disadvantages that you can only walk most the time, as opposed to running on most other terrain types (apart from moors and swamps).

Now here's dirt.

Advantages
-You don't need to plow it to lay stone on it.
-Carts go 2x as fast on dirt as to Grassland,Heath,Moor, or Forests.
-Few people will set up camp here.
-You can build constructions that require a paved area directly on the dirt if your lazy.
-Extremely wide space.
-Being able to see boars and bears.
-No trees obscuring your view.

Disadvantages
-Almost no trees whatsoever.
-Few things to eat here apart from the occasional rabbit.
-You cannot plant anything on the dirt.
I like apple juice.

As for the forest post, you could say that trees are just nearby.

You need more wood for a house then space as to say

I finally found some grassland and Dirtland and swamp.

i also found villages its was fun stuff.

But i have yet to find a broad leaf forest. yesterday i went primarily left and up (i dont quite have the compass directions down yet)

im going searching again because i would love to find a broadleaf forest next to grass land.

anyways my question to you guys was are broadleaf forests in a particular direction? or just random
