Where can I find a spindly taproot? I need it for fishing, but the wiki just said "it's found in the wild". The video I watched about fishing didn't mention where to get the root because the guy already had some.

It's a root. You can find it on ground in forest.

I live in the forest, and haven't run into any. Or maybe I wasn't looking at the ground hard enough. Thanks anyway. I'll find it and finally be able to fish unless I need ten other things to actually use the fish or something.

How much STR is needed to break a HF? Is 18 strong enough?

18 is not strong enough for bare hands, but strong enough with a pickaxe. You need at least 36 str bare handed to do at least 1 dmg per strike, 25 str with a stone axe, 16 str with a pickaxe, and 4 str with a sledgehammer. Since dmg to objects is (sqrt(Str)+Tool)-Soak, and in this case tool is stone axe=1, pickaxe=2, sledgehammer=4, and soak for a hearthfire is 5.

Is it a good idea to start constructing the log cabin and lumber shed before I can claim land. I'd like a more secure place to live with more slots than a group of leantos, but not if someone's going to swoop in and take my stuff. Or are the leantos in as much danger anyway? I haven't even gotten farming or will of power, and I need that for Yoeman to claim land.

1. Build a house.
2. Build HF infront of the door, so only you can get inside.
3. ???
4. claim land.

Thank you. I got the magic skill, so now I just need a good dream and something else common to move it.
