I need it so I can move my hearthfire in front of my door to keep people thta don't have rams from stealing my stuff, and I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I slept for over 20 minutes, and I think I've been online longer than that too. The wiki just says you get one every 20 minutes. should it be outside?

Did you make the Dream Catcher yourself?
If you didn't, and you just found it, then you might need Hearth Magic in order to harvest Dreams.
Other then that, I'm unsure.

No. At least, not to my knowledge.

Wishbones take 24 hours to study.

For example, if I use Occult Rings to fill the study, then swap them for Ring of Brogdar for 15% Learning Ability.

I don't know for certain, but using Wine as an example, I believe it is able to be done.
Wine gives you a temporary boost in INT which allows you to study more. Once it's gone if you Mentory is say 27/10 then it will stay like that and 'process' the entire loot.
So, using what you said, yes. I do believe you should be able to do that.

After you plow ground, how long 'till it reverts back to non-plowed ground?

You are correct, it is possible to do ring shenanigans. It's also often advised to drink tea before you sleep for the additional learning rate while you're offline. It makes for a nice bonus when you log back in.

Random, based on decay hits.

I put my hearthfire as close to my door as possible, but whoever has been stealing my stuff is still taking more. Apparently it just doesn't pay to stock stuff until I can get yoeman. It really ruins the early game experience when my stuff gets stolen while I work on getting yoeman. He even stole the bed I was sleeping on! Why doesn't this game have a protection mechanic like other games do? First week theft/attack immunity.

Well, in a sense there is a mechanic(could it be called that?) that you can use..it's called "alt-vaulting". I'm sure you might have heard the term around here, but what the premise is, is that you spawn a bunch of alts, and store all your valubles(IE: Curios, etc) in their inventory. It's a fairly simple/best way at your current state to avoid being a victim of a robbing/griefing.

It'd be abused to hell and back to grief people. It's really easy to get yeomanry within a couple of days if you don't know what you're doing. If you do then it takes mere hours. Until then utilize a lean-to and store your items in there while you sleep in it to prevent theft. If they actually have the theft skill then there's nothing you can do but build walls or murder them.

Wouldn't they just wreck the wall if I built one? People who have protection are also not allowed to attack others unless they're willing to forgo that protection, so there's no abuse.
