feel like I need to add to that, discover wood blocks(chop tree, chop log with wood axe) then clogs have thier own section under crafting its not in a submenu.

once you discover leather, and you have the skill leatherworking you can make leather boots. they have better armor points and even have a small soak value to take another part of the damage.

if your shoes are breaking alot and you don't need the defence, try bunny slippers. they can be made from dried rabbit furs, but offer absolutely no defense. WARNING this is how you'll get killed by ants, so only use them if you have other armor or aren't raiding ant hills. an alternative to this would be to apply leeches to your foot spot.

another shoe item that you're probably nowhere near would be ranger's boots, they're awesome but take some work to get.

Forget shoes. Just get a leech and put it on your foot. It'll solve all your problems.

aslong as a tile is 100% in the radius, there will be no cave ins.

It doesn't have to be 100% in the radius. The overlay on the wiki is correct: http://ringofbrodgar.com/wiki/Mine_support, http://ringofbrodgar.com/wiki/File:Minesupport2.png
