How much time do dropped items take at max to disappear? I found a skeleton with it's equipment around it in a pool of blood. I fleed the scene (thinking the murderer may be still in the zone), but don't corpses take an hour to decay into skeletons?

I'm not fully sure on the despawn time of items, and it can be semi-random.

If you found it in skeleton form, it means it's been there for 45minutes-1hour and decayed from a body to a skeleton (which also scatters all unlooted items around the skeleton)

I think the wiki is down right now, I can't confirm that however, but I can't access it either.

I quit recently but at one point I was sinking more than 4 hours daily into HnH (one of the reasons I've stopped now actually)

If i'm inside a cave and then prospect for metals and I get a message that says "There's Tin below", does this mean that there's Tin in the cave level too? Or will i need to make a mine inside the cave to get to the tin?

That means there is tin on the layer below you. When you prospect, it checks for metals on the layer below you always.
