A couple other quick notes:
The type of seed found in WWWs seems to be tied mostly to area, so if you only grab them around your claim, you'll probably only find a limited number of seeds at first.
Don't just stop once you get your exploration to 6 - the higher your per*exp score, the more of the available weeds you'll find, up to a cap of (the wiki says) 4 times the base needed to find the stuff.
If you can't find carrots or get them through the kindness of neighbors (I still don't have any myself for instance, ugh), you can still get your perception up - blueberry pie, roasted deer, roasted plaice, and boiled eggs for instance all give perception, although they may also give other stats. Although pretty much all of these can be tricky for a player just starting out, unless you're lucky fishing on a full moon, or happen across a deer carcass that someone killed but didn't use all of it. Peapods also give almost straight perception if you eat them raw, but only a very little bit, so you'd have to eat a lot of them.
If you're going to be farming, you might want to go full nature, since that'll raise the number of seeds you get. Of course, that'll hurt industrial stuff like mining or gathering grey clay, but if you want you can always change it back later. Replant your highest-quality seeds/crops, and use the other low-quality ones for... whatever you want to use them for. Spare seeds that you don't want to plant can go toward planting grass, or feeding chickens/livestock. (That's for the crops that give seeds that aren't actually used - hops, peas, beetroot, carrots (I assume), peppercorn and onions for example don't give seeds, you just replant the items themselves. You can still come out ahead and use some for food though, since with full nature slider you'll get three items for each one you plant. And with wheat, it's the seeds themselves that you use for flour/grist.
Oh, and if you want to plant any grape seeds you find, you need the winemaking skill. I can't remember if you need the beermaking skill to plant hops.
Er, I guess this has drifted from some "quick notes," but hey, it should be helpful to someone I hope! But I'll shut up now. :p
