It seems as if there should be a guide for newbies on how to be a hermit.

Well, yes and no.

A beginner's guide on how to obtain stuff you NEED at the start would be usefull, but since this is a sandbox game, you can't explain how to play.

A general guide explaining safety, why it's necessary, what to look for, how to find it, how to get your first wall up, what to do in the event of griefers, how to safe guard valuables, etc. etc.. That would answer a lot of questions popping up.

you mean like one of the stickies in this forum?

though that deals more with villages, same principle applies
Learn from the mistakes of others. You won't live long enough to make all of them yourself.

Avu's guide deals with village issues and security and less with developing yourself as a hermit. Avu specifically advocates against hermits and does not provide the necessary information to staying alive in that situation.

read the forum, read the wiki, try to do stuff on your own...

I don't think its necessary to explain EVERXTHING, for me a big part of the fun is learing how to do stuff on my own

Information is very spread out and very few things are intuitive. It's very easy to die, lose everything, or both. It seems unfair to me that new players who do not have the advantage of a village to help them should have no readily accessible resources. Much of the game is learning how to play it on your own, a guide would simply compress some of the vital information into a single post. The hope is, of course, to expand the fun of others and not step on it.

I started just a few weeks ago and never joined a village.sure you die a few times in the beginning but thats fun :)

if you make the game TOO easy and TOO newbie friendly the problems like bucket grinders and forest clear cutters only will rise!

I commend you for your attitude but your argument that helping newbies hurts the game because then they thrive does not sway me against the idea. Staying a hermit is a hard life without many models to help you establish and survive as it is, I don't think it'd be terribly intrusive to anyone else's gameplay experience if a few more were able to successfully set themselves up in this world.

I don't think it's a realistic concern, most people are too lazy to read.
