I'm sure there are others who can answer that question more reliably than I can. I haven't played a new char in a while. 15 for melee, mayhaps. Archery should require less. Once you start killing level ones, the rest is just natural progression. The game is pretty rough while you're learning. It still surprises me that enough people have actually gone through it for us to have some sort of user base.

Dude, you must be in the very bowels of Mordor to be slain so easily. Foxes around RoB are friendly, cuddly little creatures who want nothing more than to happily skip along and tend to their daily business. However, as you start getting further away from the RoB, the foxes become tainted with hate and will attack you for no reason other than to watch you writhe in pain as it claws at your flesh and gouges out your eyes.

I'm pretty deep in the woods myself, but foxes never bother me. If I see one walking down, i'll sprint away and it'll happily chug along without aggro'ing onto me. Just do the same.

Obviously, travelling so far away from the RoB is a dangerous challenge and you can get owned by foxes easily. Avoiding foxes in the wild is no easy feat, however, avoiding em near your homestead is pretty easy. See one coming? Sprint behind an oven so it can't get at you or run into your cabin.

A level 5 fox can usually take a new player down in a few hits, even with leather armor I think.
So the entire problem was that you were testing out your combat abilities on high level creatures, instead of on the standard level one foxes.
And if you're having trouble finding level one foxes, then you must have really bad luck, because according to the new civ map, they have a pretty large area to be found in.

Thanks all. But still, what stats and levels would you recommend for an archer to kill lvl 5 foxes? I need a goal here!
